The Synology HD6500 is the first model in the company’s new HD series, which was developed for particularly large storage requirements – High Density Storage. In the 4U factor, it offers 60 SAS HDD slots for up to 4 petabytes of data and can be expanded by 240 slots with four RX6022sas expansion units.
Almost 7,000 MB/s and four PCIe slots
Two system drives in the form of two 2.5-inch SATA SSDs, each with a capacity of 480 gigabytes, are included in the scope of delivery in addition to the 60 slots for data drives. Synology claims a sequential read rate of more than 6,688 MB/s and a sequential write rate of 6,662 MB/s for the HD6500. Two 10 GbE RJ-45 ports and three Gigabit Ethernet ports are available for this. These can be expanded by up to 10 additional 10GbE SFP+/RJ-45 and 25GbE SFP28 or Fiber Channel ports via four PCIe slots. Two PCIe slots are designed as x8 Gen 3.0 with 8 lanes, the others as x16 Gen 3.0 with 16 lanes each. A dedicated out-of-band management port (OOB) is installed for system administrators.
Two Xeon Silver with 64 GB RDIMM
The main processors are two Intel Xeon Silver 4210R with 10 cores and 2.4 GHz base and 3.2 GHz turbo clock. 64 GB DDR4 ECC RDIMM RAM is installed as main memory, which can be expanded to up to 512 GB. Two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports and two expansion ports (Mini-SAS HD) are available as external connections. Four 80 × 80 × 38 mm models serve as system fans. The two redundantly designed power supplies also have their own fans. The weight of the 176 × 438 × 985 mm Synology HD6500 is 37.9 kg.
